Postmenopausal women are more likely to develop metabolic syndrome and, consequently, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. The objective of the research was to identify the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among postmenopausal adult women. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out with patients treated between January 2022 and December 2023 in the outpatient clinic of a public hospital in the city of Belém, Pará. The variables studied included place of residence, chronological age, age and type of menopause, post-menopause time, clinical diagnosis, lifestyle habits, height and body mass, body mass index, arterial hypertension, waist circumference and laboratory test results. Descriptive statistics, the chi-square test of adherence, the Spearman correlation test and logistic regression were performed, adopting a significance level of 5%. Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed when the patient presented at least three of the five criteria adopted by the Joint Interim Statement. A significant proportion (p<0.0001) of the 198 postmenopausal adult women evaluated were sedentary (79.3%) and mildly obese (36.9%). The most prevalent components (p<0.05) were hyperglycemia (72.2%) and arterial hypertension (61.6%). Metabolic syndrome significantly prevailed (p=0.034) in 61.1% of patients seen, associated with chronological age (p= 0.038 – CI= 1.004-1.156) and body mass index (p= 0.005 – CI = 1.022-1.135). This research showed a high prevalence of MS among postmenopausal adult women treated at a public outpatient clinic highlighting the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases.
