Background: Metabolic disorders like diabetes, mellitus, obesity, metabolic syndrome and dyslipidemia are major health problems globally and have been linked to increased morbidity and cardiovascular complications. Meanwhile interest in herbal medicines and natural products have been increasing due to their ability to simultaneously act on several metabolic dysfunction pathways. Objective: Through this study summary, an attempt is made to delineate the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants, plant-based metabolics, and other natural products for treating metabolic disorders. The spotlight is on the underlying mechanisms of action and the clinical trial evidence that support these uses. Methods: Relevant scientific papers discussing natural products and metabolic disorders were examined through the authors' personal collection, emphasizing on experimental animal models, human clinical trials, large-scale surveys, and pooled studies. The data on glucose homeostasis, improvement of insulin sensitivity, effects on lipids, weight loss or prevention, overall metabolic profile changes, oxidative stress, and inflammation were assessed and then summarized. Results: The review of research finds that natural compounds can offer health benefits through many complementary mechanisms. Activities reported include enhancement of insulin signaling and glucose uptake, blocking carbohydrate-digesting enzymes, controlling hepatic glucose production and lipid metabolism, changing the functions of adipose tissue, and reducing the levels of oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. Results of clinical research could help for glycemic control, lipid profiles, body weight, and some of the features of metabolic syndrome. At the same time, the variability among the reports is significant which is mainly due to different factors like plant species, phytochemical composition, dosage forms formulation bioavailability, administration duration, and different characteristics of the subject populations. Conclusion: Herbal remedies and natural products have great potential in the form of adjunctive therapies for metabolic disorders due to their ability to affect several targets. Despite that, challenges like standardization bioavailability safety, interactions between herbs and drugs, and lack of reliable clinical evidence are still major issues. It would be necessary if the clinical researchers did more well-designed and suitably powered studies so that the therapeutic effects, ideal doses, long term safety, and how these products should be incorporated into evidence-based metabolic disorders management are fully determined.
