Preprint.
No findings were extractable from the material analysed.
Safety was not reported in the material analysed. Check the source before drawing any conclusion about harm.
The source did not state who this applies to in practice.
Graded across the dimensions that decide whether you should act, each from what the source actually supports. There is no single score, and where a dimension was not assessed it says so.
This record has not been graded across any dimension yet. Treat the label above as provisional and read the source.
What is missing. This record has no bottom line, key findings, reported figures, evidence dimensions. That is a gap in the analysis, not a judgement about the study.
Looped language models can strengthen reasoning through repeated computation with shared weights, increasing execution depth without adding independent parameters. However, each additional pass increases training floating-point operations (FLOPs), making these gains more expensive to obtain. To address this cost, we propose UpLoop, a pretraining schedule that uses upcycling to train looped Transformers while exactly matching a standard dense baseline in final parameter count, total training tokens, and training FLOPs. Specifically, UpLoop begins with a shallow Transformer, progressively grows its depth by copying learned layers, and uses the computation saved early to support repeated execution of a shared middle block later in training. Experiments across model scales show improvements in language modeling and downstream performance, with the average score across 22 downstream tasks increasing from 22.99 to 27.52 at 1.3B parameters. These gains also extend to mathematical reasoning after supervised fine-tuning.
