Aged, 80 and Over / Aging / Alzheimer Disease · Observational Study
ClinicalTrials.gov · August 14, 2026
Early or partial results. Treat as a signal, not a conclusion.
This is a planned observational cohort study registration, not a completed trial. The study aims to relate vascular health markers to imaging, cognitive, and biological markers of early Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular disease over five years. No results are reported in this registry record.
Observational. Alzheimer Disease, Aging, Aged, 80 and Over, Biomarkers, Brain, Case-Control Studies, Cognitive Dysfunction, Neuropsychological Tests; age from 60 Years. Intervention: Cognitively healthy adults; Cognitively impaired adults. n = 1,000. 1 site: United States.

Safety was not reported in the material analysed. Check the source before drawing any conclusion about harm.
The source did not state who this applies to in practice.
This is a registry record for an ongoing observational cohort study with no reported results; it describes planned enrollment and outcome measures only.
As stated by the source record.
Quoted from the source exactly as published.
Graded across the dimensions that decide whether you should act, each from what the source actually supports. There is no single score, and where a dimension was not assessed it says so.
What is missing. This record has no key findings. That is a gap in the analysis, not a judgement about the study.
Registry record from ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05372159). This is a study registration, not published results. Lead sponsor: Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Recruitment status: ACTIVE_NOT_RECRUITING. Study type: OBSERVATIONAL. Enrollment: 1000 participants (ESTIMATED). Conditions: Alzheimer Disease, Aging, Aged, 80 and Over, Biomarkers, Brain, Case-Control Studies, Cognitive Dysfunction, Neuropsychological Tests. Interventions: OTHER: none, observational study. Primary outcome measures: White matter hyperintensities Volume , baseline to year five; Grey Matter Volume , baseline to year five; Cerebral Blood Flow , baseline to year five; Lacunar infarcts , baseline to year five; Small vessel microbleeds , baseline to year five; Left ventricular ejection fraction , baseline to year five; Cardiac output , baseline to year five; Cardiac stroke volume , baseline to year five; Pulse Wave velocity , baseline to year five; Cardiac Strain , baseline to year five; Biological marker for Alzheimer's disease , baseline to year five; Blood based biological marker for Alzheimer's disease , baseline to year five; APOE Genotype , baseline to year five. Brief summary: This study will use an observational cohort to cross-sectionally and longitudinally relate vascular health to clinical, imaging, and biological markers of early Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular disease among aging adults. Adjusting for relevant clinical covariates, we will test the hypothesis that vascular health is associated with clinical, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), neuropsychological, and cerebrospinal fluid markers of early cerebrovascular and Alzheimer's disease changes (i.e., prior to the onset of significant cognitive decline or dementia). Secondarily, we will examine medical and genetic factors that might mediate associations between vascular health and brain aging, such as inflammatory processes, insulin resistance, and genetic factors (e.g., APOE, a susceptibility risk factor for dementia). Findings will advance knowledge regarding the role that vascular health plays in brain aging.
