The rate of skin cancer has escalated rapidly over the past decade, affecting both melanoma and non-melanoma types. Skin cancers primarily consist of keratinocyte cancers, including cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma. This review highlights recent progress in skin cancer treatments. In addition to chemotherapy, options such as immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and photodynamic therapy (PDT) are available for skin cancer. Furthermore, the combination of PDT with chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and surgery is currently being explored. This review will focus on the pathophysiology of skin cancer and existing therapies utilized in the topical treatment of skin cancers, as well as introduce novel treatments that may offer benefits for these conditions.
